The Department of Technical Chemistry is represented by the working group "Carbon Materials". Studies on the synthesis and characterization of highly porous carbons are a major focus of the work. One goal is the development of a library of carbon materials in which essential parameters such as degree of graphitization, composition or texture are systematically varied. Another goal is the development of porous carbon monoliths which can be flown through by fluids. The materials are tested in a variety of technically relevant applications such as heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry, adsorption or immobilization of enzymes.
