Kick-off event for the start of the degree programme: Welcome to summer semester 2025!

The start has been made. The first-year students gathered for the central kick-off event in the large lecture theatre. There they were warmly welcomed into the BTU family by BTU President Prof. Gesine Grande.

It's not just the sun that's smiling, Artur is beaming too. The 25-year-old is delighted to have returned to his home town of Cottbus after completing his Bachelor's degree in Leipzig. Here, the student can now complete his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in automotive engineering. "There are car manufacturers in Leipzig, BMW and Porsche, but you can't study automotive engineering there." Another reason for him to enrol at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg: the excellent supervision ratio. There are 185 professors and 680 teaching and research fellows for every 7,100 students. People know each other here!

BTU - one of the most dynamic universities in Germany

In her welcoming speech, BTU President Prof. Gesine Grande warmly welcomed the new students to the BTU family. She assured the first-semester students that they had made a good choice, as BTU is one of the most dynamic universities in Germany. Prof. Grande: "All of us here - professors, lecturers, staff members in the faculties and central administration - are looking forward to welcoming you and will do everything we can to make your studies interesting and successful."

For first-year students: city tour, cinema, bowling and the semester opening party

This is exactly what exchange students Olga and Yelyzaveta are hoping for. The two 19-year-olds come from Odessa (Ukraine) and are studying Architecture. They are now getting a taste of Cottbus for a semester and are already very excited to see what highlights not only the university, but also the city and Lusatia have to offer. Philip from OTIWO (Organisations Team Info Woche) is giving them a taste of what's to come, inviting all new arrivals to a city tour, a cinema screening, a bowling evening and the semester opening party. He also asks that students enjoy their everyday student life, liven up the campus, be open to new things and get involved in the university's various committees.
