Points account

During the bachelor's program, the student must earn 180 credit points. With a standard period of study of 6 semesters, this is an average of 30 credit points per semester, with one credit point corresponding to about 30 hours of work.

In contrast to traditional courses at universities, the Bachelor courses are definitely stronger and more tightly organized. Examinations are always scheduled during the course of study, i.e. at the end of the modules, e.g. even at the end of the first semester. Credit points are awarded for each module examination passed. Module examinations that are not passed can be repeated twice. The study and examination regulations provide for continuous performance monitoring: at certain points in time, the student must have achieved a certain minimum number of credit points. These credit points can be obtained in the regular course of study without any problems. Even if a repeat examination is necessary for a module, the limit can still be easily achieved. However, if you are behind in three or more modules compared to the regular course of studies, you will have problems.

We would also like to point out that a reasonably regular course of studies is a condition for continuous funding according to the Federal Training Assistance Act (Bafög). In computer science, you usually have to have earned n*30-30 credit points after n semesters.

Minimum number of credit points to be acquired

(see RahmenO-Ba § 10 "Requirements of the study program, credit points, study design" (6) - (8))

Module examinations and the Bachelor's thesis must be successfully completed within 4 semesters after their placement in the regular study plan. If students do not achieve these credit points, they usually lose their right to take the examination.

If there is a risk of non-compliance with the above rules, the student will be invited to a compulsory study counseling session. This is especially the case if the following points account has not been reached:

at the beginning of the 3rd semester:40 credit points
at the beginning of the 5th semester: 80 credit points
at the beginning of the 7th semester:120 credit points
at the beginning of the 9th semester:160 credit points

(See RahmenO-Ba § 10 (5)).
