Master thesis

The Master's thesis is an examination (module description 12521) in which the candidate must prove that he or she can independently and successfully work on a specific task under guidance within a specified period of time and contribute to the solution of theoretical and practical problems in a scientifically justified manner. The Master's thesis should correspond to the advanced level of knowledge in the subject discipline.

Note:

  • The topic of the thesis will be given out by your mentor, the candidate can make suggestions for the topic.
  • To register, please use the form "Registration and submission of the thesis".
  • At the time the Master's thesis is issued, at least 78 LP must have been earned, with at least 8 credit points in each of the three computer science complexes earned through examinations and all required credit points in the "Mathematics" complex and on the professional internship (if applicable, the modules replacing the professional internship).
  • You have six months to complete the course. An extension can be requested from the examination board, stating the reasons.
  • You have to hand in three copies of the bound work on time to the responsible person in the Student Administration Office.
  • When handing in the written work, you must certify in writing that you have written the work independently and that you have not used any sources or aids other than those indicated, and that you have marked citations (text of the declaration of independence).
  • The second opinion is usually written by another professor of the Institute of Computer Science.
  • In the case of external Master's theses, the second opinion can be written by the external supervisor, if suitable. (This requires at least an equivalent own degree).
  • University professors who are close to the subject can also be considered as external reviewers. The same applies to qualified colleagues with whom there is close cooperation in the field of the thesis (e.g. who are employed at research institutes and therefore do not formally count as university lecturers).
