Facility location

Facility location is a classical optimization problem. A set of customers requesting a certain demand from facilities is given. Furthermore a set of potential sites for the facilities and their respective capacities and costs are specified. The question is where to open the facilities and how to assign customers to facilities such that the overall system can be operated in a cost efficient way.

We compared the solutions from a genetic algorithm metaheuristic that was developed by our industrial partner within a consulting project with global optimal solutions from a mixed-integer linear solver.
