Climate-neutral mobility at the BTU

The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) is once again participating in Germany's Car-Free University Day. Thus, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, a part of the BTU's main campus will be marked as car-free for the first time.

The aim is to draw attention to the relevance of climate-neutral, environmentally friendly and socially just mobility. BTU members as well as visitors are asked to come to the university on this day by bicycle, public transport or on foot. By doing so, they will not only be helping to protect the climate, but will also have a chance to win great prizes.

Those who, for compelling reasons, are nevertheless traveling by car are asked to find a parking space outside the campus on this day. The three main entrances at the main campus will be marked with ribbons so that, for example, important deliveries can be made, and firefighters and people with limited mobility can drive through. Staff will provide information about the action here.

Attractive supporting program
A market of opportunities will flank the Car-Free University Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the interim cafeteria at FaBLab, the open workshop for Cottbus and the surrounding area in Walther-Pauer-Strasse 7. Those who have come without a car will, with a little luck, be rewarded with a prize from the raffle.
Among other things, visitors can look forward to an exchange market as well as the opportunity for bicycle coding at the stand of the Verkehrswacht, which will also be on site with an intoxication goggle course & e-scooter test rides. Among others, the German Bicycle Club, the German Traffic Club, the Student Parliament, several Departmental Committees, the Green University Group, the Bicycle-Friendly University, the FabLab and the Environmental Group Cottbus will be present with information booths and hands-on activities. The physical well-being will be provided with vegan sample appetizers, combined with recipes to try out, with sustainable snacks and at a drinks bar.

To the car-free university day
Annually on the third Sunday in July the action day takes place mobile without car, which is considered as largest country wide traffic-political action. The Car-Free University Day follows on the following Tuesday. It is organized at the BTU under the leadership of the Chair of Sociology of Technology and the Environment, headed by Prof. Dr. Melanie Jaeger-Erben.
