With Cassandra and Mixed Reality on the Way to Digital Surgery

The work of the surgeon consists in the acquisition and processing of a multitude of information and results in a direct, often irreversible translation into surgical action with anatomical and physiological consequences.

Decision support and alarm systems based on artificial intelligence, the integration of complex information into the surgical routine by means of extender reality systems and, finally, robotically assisted surgery with the perspective of (semi-)autonomous systems represent essential focal points of the digitization of surgery. Prof. Dr. Igor M. Sauer, Head of Experimental Surgery at Charité Berlin, will present an overview of recent developments in the aforementioned fields and outline possible future scenarios.
