Visit of the Minister of Transport to Faculty 6
The main topic of discussion was the shortage of skilled workers in the field of planning and construction, which the Faculty would like to effectively counteract with its range of courses. The Minister was informed about the Faculty's study programs and possible points of contact for more intensive cooperation. It became clear that there will continue to be a great demand for specialists trained at Faculty 6 in the future. With a view to possible employment in Minister Genilke's ministry, graduates from the Civil Engineering and Urban and Regional Planning study programmes are in particular demand.
Prof. Dr. Eisenmann explains: "In our teaching, we address the planning requirements of the state of Brandenburg. For example, the legal foundations of transport planning, such as the Brandenburg Mobility Act published a few months ago, are discussed."
Among other things, Minister Genilke also found out about existing opportunities for co-op programs and part-time studies for a Master's degree. The minister expressly welcomed the possibility of these study models and was well informed about the excellent graduation and job success rates of dual education degrees, which is obtained through a combination of academic schooling and vocational training.
Other topics included BTU's own Institute for Materials Research and Testing(FMPA) with its PÜZ (Testing, Monitoring and Certification Body), which makes an important contribution to the safe use of construction products, challenges in spatial and Regional Planning and the importance of mobility hubs as an important building block in the transport transition.
Due to the large overlap in content between the Ministry and the Faculty, contact is to be further expanded.
