This course teaches the mathematics of finite element methods. In particular, we will deal with the following points:

  • Weak formulation of elliptic PDEs
  • Sobolev spaces
  • Implementation of
  • A-priori error estimates using interpolation errors
  • A-posteriori error estimation and adaptivity

Prior knowledge

Basic knowledge of functional analysis.

Examination

In order to take a module examination, an oral examination takes place after the lecture period.
