Enrolment
Everything you need to know at a glanceDoctoral candidates are enrolled as doctoral students, unless they are employed primarily at BTU, or choose not to enrol due to professional commitments outside the university, or for other reasons. If you decide to enrol when applying for acceptance as a doctoral candidate, your documents will automatically be forwarded to the Admissions and Registrar´s Service by the faculty.
Enrolment
Once you have been accepted as a doctoral candidate, you will receive all the information you need to complete your enrolment and submit the online application via the myBTU portal. Information on paying the semester fees will be provided with the enrolment application, and you will be enrolled at BTU once the fees have been received and all enrolment documents have been submitted.
Please note that the doctoral status is not dependent on enrolment!
An exception are the doctoral studies as part of a doctoral study programme.
Registering for the Following Semester
Doctoral students can usually enrol at any time during the semester. However, it is important to be aware of the fixed deadlines for successful re-registration, to ensure that you remain enrolled at BTU for the next semester. You will receive an email with the relevant information in advance. Re-registration is completed by paying the semester fee. You can find more information on this in the myBTU portal.
Student Identification Card (Chip Card)
All enrolled doctoral students at BTU receive a chip card. You will usually receive your card in the post, or alternatively from the Admissions & Registrar's Office on your campus. The chip card serves as a
- Student Identification Card and is valid for one semester. For each subsequent semester, the validity imprint must be renewed at a validation station after registering for the following semester.
- Copy Card, enabling you to make copies at the central copiers in the library. To do this, load cash onto your chip card at the top-up stations.
- Library Card for the libraries at all locations. At the library on the central campus in Cottbus, you can also use the storage lockers after initialising them at the information terminal.
Germany Semester Ticket
After enrolling and activating your BTU account, you can access your semester ticket online. It can be stored in Google or Apple Wallet and is valid with an official photo ID on local public transport from the start of the semester (1 October or 1 April). If you are employed by BTU, you have the option of using the Deutschlandticket from DB Regio AG as a job ticket.
