Funding
Finance your doctorateIn addition to living expenses, you will of course also incur a wide range of costs for your doctoral studies, for example for conferences, experiments, laboratory work or software. If you are not doing your doctorate in a qualification or project position or as part of external employment, the following financial support options are available to you:
Scholarships and Grants from External Funding Organisations

The list of external funding organisations is very long. Thorough research is required, taking into account both individual circumstances and the chosen research topic. We recommend using scholarship databases to search specifically for suitable funding opportunities or special grants.
Scholarships and Grants from the Graduate Research School
The Graduate Research School offers BTU doctoral candidates grants for conference participation and short research stays as well as a limited number of doctoral scholarships. Further information on the funding instruments, application requirements and deadlines can be found on the Graduate Research School website. Subscribe to the newsletter if you would like to receive regular information about current calls for applications.
Part-time Job
A part-time job can be a good way to top up your income. Please note that a part-time job may affect your health insurance, nursing care, unemployment and pension insurance, income tax liability, and other benefits, such as scholarships. The BTU Career Centre offers employee positions, numerous part-time jobs, working student positions, internships and regional and national graduate positions in its extensive online job exchange.
