MR4B Mixed reality applications and artificial intelligence for SMEs in Berlin and the surrounding area

The WIR! alliance "MR4B" aims at implementing VR/AR applications in the project region "Greater Berlin area", and in particular in the old industrial areas of Brandenburg. To achieve this, we seek to connect developers, users, promoters of innovations and other relevant stakeholders. Our approach is to draw on Berlin's innovation ecosystem to foster structural change in the city's surrounding regions.

Together with our partner X-Visual Technologies GmbH, the Chair is responsible for the strategic development of the project. Activities in the three areas of technological development, market and user observation and regional development are being pursued in order to continuously develop the alliance strategy and align it with the alliance goals.

The Chair is responsible for identifying the drivers and barriers for the use of VR/AR applications and for determining the potential of these technologies in the industrial environment. In addition, we analyse the following questions:

  • Which companies are suitable for new services and improving their value chains?
  • What form could possible collaborations with local authority business development organisations, chambers of industry and commerce and co-working initiatives and showrooms take?
  • What best practices for regional initiatives can be established for the introduction of AR/VR applications in combination with AI and what are the requirements for immersive co-working spaces in rural areas and their networking?

The chair succeeds Prof. Stefan Zundel as lead in this project, who was significantly involved in the conception of the research project.
