The Chair of Public Law, with focus on Environmental and Planning Law is part of Faculty 5 Economics, Law and Society of the Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus-Senftenberg.

The chair's particular focus is on planning law, with particular emphasis on the assessment of the legal aspects related to the construction of wind energy plants, risk management and international and European environmental law, especially with regard to climate change, as well as currently on university law.

The chair supervises a large number of student research projects, Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral or PhD theses by students of, among others, Business Administration, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Land Use and Water Management, Environmental and Resource Management, World Heritage Studies as well as the part-time Master's programmes Forensic Sciences and Engineering (M.Sc.) and Business Law for Technology Companies (M.B.L.). Transdisciplinarity of future aspects of higher education transformation are also part of a research focus in the context of the current merger, the TransLAB at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.

Regular events organised by the chair include the annual Media Law Days (in cooperation with the ZfRV), specialised seminars on legal project management and risk management, and various DAAD-funded summer schools in Germany and abroad.
