Learning Outcome:Basic knowledge of renewable energy conversion components/statistics, fundamentals and definitions; chemical and physical knowledge of the working principles; technical limits and economical importance of several systems.
The topic of the module serves as an example to illustrate the connection between basic and applied science and to demonstrate the methods of attaining new perceptions. Additionally the module supports social competences as the capacity for teamwork and further competences as accurateness, endurance, and curiosity.
Contents:
  • Lecture:
    Statistics in energy consumption, kinds of energy ressources and definitions; photovoltaics; solar thermal; wind, water and planetary energy; fuel cells; geothermal; biomass
  • Practical course:
    Basic experiments in order to evaluate RE technology and to learn about the energy content of energy ressources; excursion to manufacturers
Recommended Prerequisites:basics in chemistry and physics
