Learning Outcome:Action-oriented tasks for global, selective and detailed listening and reading comprehension, for the production of topic and situation-related written texts, for topic and situation-related oral expression as well as exercises for comprehension and consolidation of linguistic structures (vocabulary and grammar). In addition, learning strategies and techniques for self-study are presented and practised. The main emphasis is placed on the build-up of a comprehensive set of technical vocabulary. On the basis of technical texts the participants will practise to apply different reading strategies. In addition, the participants will practise how to describe processes and procedures. They learn how to explain technical terms, give definitions and how to provide missing information. They will be able to solve problems and present the solutions in an appropriate manner.
Contents:Water protection (aquatic systems, food webs, lake zones, stratification)
Water pollution (sources and effects, pollutants, eutrophication, mining lakes)
Hydrology (flooding, groundwater hydrology, water distribution)
Hydroelectric power
Water treatment (requirements, treatment processes)
Wastewater treatment (facilities, processes)
Grammar: countable/uncountable nouns, question formation, tenses, passive, modal verbs, linkers

Recommended Prerequisites:Modules B1.1, B1.2, B2.1 or B2.2 or English skills at level CEFR B1+ / B2

Remarks:This module especially aims at students of the degree courses Environmental Engineering, Land Use and Water Management and exchange students with an English language competence at level CEFR B1+/B2.

No more than 25 participants can be enrolled in each language course group.
The courses can be held face-to-face or online.
