Module Title:Advanced Database Models
  Erweiterte Datenbankmodelle
Department: Faculty 1 - Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
Responsible Staff Member:
  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Schmitt, Ingo
Language of Teaching / Examination:English
Duration:1 semester
Frequency of Offer: Every summer semester

Learning Outcome:Students understand
  • SQL:2003,
  • object-relational and object-oriented database model,
  • XML-queries,
  • spatial data and queries.
Contents:For special applications from the areas of manufacturing and science classical relational database modelling basing on table structures is not adequate. Alternatively, several new database models and technologies were developed. The course covers SQL:2003, ODMG and XML. Focus is on data modelling and query techniques as well as implementation of behaviour in form of methods. Further focus is on spatial data and queries for geographical information systems.
Acquired knowledge will be applied within a project.
