14050 - Environmental Impact of Aero Engines Modulübersicht
Module Number: | 14050 |
Module Title: | Environmental Impact of Aero Engines |
Umweltauswirkungen von Luftfahrtantrieben | |
Department: | Faculty 3 - Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Energy Systems |
Responsible Staff Member: |
|
Language of Teaching / Examination: | English |
Duration: | 1 semester |
Frequency of Offer: | Every summer semester |
Credits: | 6 |
Learning Outcome: | In a first step, students learn about the emissions of conventional aircraft engines – including NOx, CO2 and noise – based on examples and some basic mathematical equations. In a second step, it will be detailed how the electrification of the aircraft power train will affect the emissions. This will include the generation of contrails but also the generation of noise by the new components of the electric propulsion system, such as electric motors. In the accompanying exercises, students will solve some basic mathematical problems related to the emissions of conventional and electrical aircraft propulsion systems. In addition, the students will have the chance to work on a self-chosen topic and present it to their peers at the end of the module. |
