Entry salaries
In many job advertisements and job interviews, you will be asked to state your salary expectations.
The Lohnspiegel website can provide you with an initial orientation to answering this question.
The site provides an overview of salaries for around 400 professions. The site is scientifically supervised by the WSI-Tarifarchiv in the Hans Böckler Foundation.
Glassdoor also has a fairly extensive database, which can give you an insight into your starting salary.
You can also find out current starting salaries for engineers and Computer Science specialists via Get in GmbH.
Job advertisements in the public sector usually state the "pay grade" (Entgeltgruppe). You can find out the salary behind the individual pay grades here .
You should note the following points:
- Only state a salary expectation in your written application if this has also been asked for in the job advertisement
- Do not state net or monthly salaries, but always the gross annual salary
- A salary range is usually given, e.g. "My salary expectations are in the range of 35,000 to 38,000 euros p.a."
- Wait in the interview until the topic of salary is addressed by the employer (unless the topic has not yet been addressed by the employer by the end of the application process).
Please always consider the salary information on the Internet as a guide only. The actual salary depends on many factors such as the size of the company, professional experience, federal state, etc.
