Research catamaran

Our research pontoon is part of the approved DFG large-scale project “KLIMAKAT”. The Bad Saarow research site is located about 85 km from Cottbus and about 65 km from Berlin on the shores of Lake Scharmützel in a catchment area with a large number of lakes connected by rivers and canals. The department has been collecting extensive long-term data in this area for over 30 years.

The research pontoon can be used as an independent working platform or open-air laboratory for flexible use in research and teaching. The pontoon is mobile, environmentally friendly and characterized by low noise emissions. A dock built in 2011 is located in the immediate vicinity of the department building and is used as a mooring for the “KLIMAKAT” and as an effective public display of current water data.
