Course content

The lectures provides an overview about the geological processes at the surface and subsurface of the earth: endogenic processes on the basis of plate tectonics (crustal dynamics, rock deformation, earthquakes, magmatic and volcanic activites), exogenic surface processes (weathering, erosion, transport and sedimentation in various environments), environmental aspects and anthropogenic influences on these processes.

The lecture is accompanied by an excursion (field trip to a geological site). Topics: Geological land forming processes, chances and risks for the population, protection measures.

(This lecture takes place during the first half of the semester; in the second half of the semester, there will be Prof. Herd's lecture "Raw materials and natural resources management" at the same time and place.)
