Learning Outcome:The students learn about fundamentals of economic planning as determination and calculation of specific floor spaces and cost planning. Furthermore also knowledge of private-law regulations which regulate the legal relationships between client, free-lance architect and executing construction firms is part of the module.
Contents:The content of the module refers to the main tasks of an architect in economic and legal respect, as they are contained in the work phases of planning (1 to 4) and construction (5 to 9) according to § 34 of the German fee order for Architects and Engineers (HOAI 2013).
  • Knowledge about the basic tasks of the involved as client, architect, planning engineers and firms.
  • Fundamentals of economic planning.
  • Fundamentals of cost calculation.
  • Basic knowledge and kinds of awarding planning and construction work.
  • Planning and execution of works through efficient date and execution planning and their different ways of representation.
  • Contractual regulation of duties of free-lance architects and engineers.
  • Knowledge of private construction law such as law of obligations and law of contracts of work according to BGB, Agreement of VOB/B as AGB, pay according to HOAI.
  • Description of works with bill of quantities and programme containing all works (EP).
  • Deadlines for eliminating constructional defects in the building contract as well as ascertaining claims for payment and accomplishment of their due date.

The content teached consists of 50% scientific fundamentals, 20% methods, 30% technical knowledge.
