Learning Outcome:The students are able to distinguish and reflect on the relationships between the different fields of the electrical power supply. In addition to the different types of generation, the students can also analyse the various grid types with their different operating elements. Furthermore, the students can also recognise influences on the power quality and evaluate them accordingly.

Structure of power systems:

  • Generation
  • Transmission
  • Distribution
  • Consumption

Main components:

  • Power plans (conventional and renewable)
  • Generators
  • Transformers
  • Power lines (overhead lines & cables / HVAC & HVDC)
  • Calculation basics of power system
  • Operation under normal and fault conditions
  • Management and processes of electrical power systems
  • Integration of renewable energy sources
Recommended Prerequisites:Basic understanding in electrical engineering

  • Written examination, 90 minutes OR
  • Oral examination, 30 minutes
