Learning Outcome:Students will acquire knowledge about emerging technologies in power generation. They will be able to identify the need and trend of future power plant technologies in relation to the environmental issues and economic aspect
Contents:

Supercritical and Ultra-supercritical steam power plants; Boiler and Steam turbine Materials for high pressure and temperature applications; Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC); Indirect fired combined cycle; Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD); Emerging Coal Combustion technologies (pressurized fluidized bed combustion, oxy fuel combustion and chemical looping combustion); Advanced gas turbine and gas-steam combined cycles; Solar-steam turbine hybrid power plants; solar-gas turbine hybrid power plants ; Energy storage (Battery, Compressed air)

Recommended Prerequisites:Basic of Thermodynamics, Energy resources and conversion, Heat transfer, Fluid mechanics
Mandatory Prerequisites:Module 35449 Power plant Technology I
Forms of Teaching and Proportion:
