Learning Outcome:Understanding GIS technology and information management, knowledge of information modelling and analysis with spatial references, skills working with GIS as Desktop application and using Web services, refresh of database and programming technology and workflow modelling, competences in effective GIS application in environmental and water related engineering projects
Contents:Introduction to GIS software, data and services, coordinate reference systems, vector data management and analysis, raster data management and analysis, GIS and related data base standards, information modelling within GIS, WEB-GIS and mobile GIS techniques and solutions, metadata and INSPIRE initiative, environmental information systems and Web portals, interfacing to other software systems, GIS as modelling framework, application examples and case studies from environmental and water related engineering problems
Recommended Prerequisites:Basic knowledge and experiences in information and computer technology (ICT) applied in engineering and natural sciences, Module Statistics (ERM)
Mandatory Prerequisites:
  • Module 11110 Mathematics for Engineering I
  • Module 11111 Mathematics for Engineering II
