Learning Outcome: | The students know different approaches to model turbulent flows. They are able to decide which turbulence model is adequate for different applications. |
Contents: | In the course we discuss the basic concepts of turbulence modeling.
Subjects are:
- Conservation equations and canonical flows
- Basic concepts of computational fluid mechanics
- The problem related to turbulent flow simulation
- Algebraic, 1-, and 2 equation models
- Reynolds stress models
- Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) approaches
- Large Eddy Simulation (LES)
- Direct numerical simulation (DNS)
- Hybrid turbulence models
- Stochastic turbulence models
