13051 - Modern Discretization Methods Modulübersicht

Module Number: 13051
Module Title:Modern Discretization Methods
  Moderne Diskretisierungsverfahren
Department: Faculty 6 - Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning
Responsible Staff Member:
  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dornisch, Wolfgang
Language of Teaching / Examination:English
Duration:1 semester
Frequency of Offer: On special announcement
Credits: 6
Learning Outcome:Students will obtain state-of-the-art knowledge about the use and the formulation of modern discretization methods in the frame of the finite element method and/or other numerical solution procedures. Besides theoretical knowledge, which is conveyed in initial input lectures, students will learn how to implement these novel approaches in a numerical solution framework.
Contents:The module will focus on the following contents:
  • Concepts for the description of geometry in design and analysis
  • Implementation of interpolation concepts in simulation frameworks
  • Theoretical formulation of novel element types
  • Implementation and validation of novel element formulations
Recommended Prerequisites:Attendance at the modules belonging to the focus area „Konstruktiver Ingenieurbau 1“ and „Simulationsmethoden“, Knowledge of at least one programming language
Mandatory Prerequisites:None
Forms of Teaching and Proportion:
  • Seminar / 2 Hours per Week per Semester
  • Self organised studies / 150 Hours
