Learning Outcome:After attending the module "Transition to Climate Neutrality – An economic perspective" students have a deeper understanding of economics of current climate policies, the impact of issues like asymmetric information and commitment problems, uncertainty and path dependency as well as knowledge about limitations. Furthermore, the student are familiar with economic foundations of climate policy packages and have compared optimal design of policy instruments with adoption in reality. Additionally, the student’s research, writing and presentation skills will be improved.
Contents:Recently passed Climate Agreements force urgent and profound transformations.
We analyze these decarbonization path from an economic perspective and analyze the design, the prospects and limits of traditional as well as modern climate policies. Different strategies will be assassed from multiple perspectives, those of decision makers in industry and politics but also in respect of the consequencees for the public.
Recommended Prerequisites:Students are expected to
  • have background knowledge in economics,
  • be familiar with algebra as well as
  • understand basic microeconomics.

Teaching Materials and Literature:The lecture is based on presentations which can be used for lecture notes. For the tutorial there will be practice sheets and additional literature available.
