Learning Outcome: | The module clarifies key terms and contents as urban politics, government, governance, planning strategies, and buzz words like sustainability, sufficiency and resilience in the context of urban development. It contributes to the analysis and estimation of the framework conditions to plan and implement projects in the field of Urban Design and Sustainable Revitalisation. It explores governance structures which determine the space to manoeuvre for professionals in this field. It touches on legal planning methods and procedures, participation of the public and decision making of legal bodies, land and construction economics and optional funding schemes which determine planning and building. These themes are put in context of sustainable and integrated urban development. The module enables students to understand and explain processes and actors involved in urban development. They are familiar with central definitions, concepts and institutional interrelations which determine planning policy, development and building processes. They have knowledge of the role of public and private finances and funding instruments. The students are able to contextualize and describe these topics in the context of urban design and sustainable revitalisation projects. |
Contents: | • Policy and planning frameworks and strategic documents of integrated urban development • Sustainability, sufficiency and resilience in integrated urban development, urban design and sustainable revitalision projects • Funding policies and additional financing instruments in this field • Transformation of key contents to case studies on urban design and sustainable sevitalisation in urban areas in structural transition • An excursion will be organised as part of the seminar. |

Assessment Mode for Module Examination: | Seminar presentation, max. 20 min (30 %); paper max. 20000 characters, A4 (60 %) and active participation in lecture relatet exercises, (10 %) In case of fraud and plagiarism partial performances cannot be passed. |
