After successful completion of this module, students will be able to:

• Apply theories and critical approaches in heritage studies to practice-based projects, translating academic discourses into concrete heritage tasks, such as interpretations, proposals related to sites, collections and heritage practices
• Design and develop heritage projects based on case study work, demonstrating the ability to conceptualize, plan, and realize practice-oriented outputs (such as exhibitions, interpretive tools, documentation strategies, or digital/participatory formats) informed by critical heritage perspectives
• Engage reflexively with heritage-making processes, including critical assessment of representation, inclusion, power relations, ethics, and contested meanings
• Employ interdisciplinary research methods, including empirical studies and participatory approaches, to collect, analyze, and translate collected data into project proposals or outcomes.

The study project adopts an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approach and focuses on a broad range of theoretical, methodological, and applied perspectives within heritage studies. It encourages students to critically examine how heritage is defined, interpreted and contested. Through transdisciplinary inquiry and applied research, students engage with specifc heritage case studies and explore how theories, concepts, and debates introduced in other modules can be transferred to and tested on heritage project work. Emphasis is placed on the analysis and development of heritage interpretations, representations, and interventions, as well as on reflexive engagement with ethical, epistemological, and contextual challenges in heritage practice.

Within this module, case studies and project themes are selected according to their relevance and timeliness when the module is offered. These vary from semester to semester. The study project combines various teaching and learning methods, which may include:

Seminars, Lectures, Individual study, Group work, Workshops, Presentations, Field trips, Work with relevant databases, Interviews.

The number of teaching hours per week per semester (SWS) will depend on the project-specific teaching and learning methods. They will usually be 4 SWS.

Number, format and weighting of partial performance/s for the module examination (module grade) are announced in the respective project.
