Learning Outcome:After successful completion of the module, students are able to:
  • Explain the fundamentals of multimedia communication and QoS
  • Understand adaptive streaming techniques and standards like MPEG-DASH
  • Evaluate modern video codecs such as AVC, HEVC, AV1, and VVC
  • Describe networking protocols used in multimedia delivery (RTP, RTCP, HTTP)
  • Analyze and simulate QoE metrics under dynamic network conditions
  • Design delivery architectures for immersive and metaverse applications
  • Implement hands-on projects involving real-world media systems.
Contents:This course takes students on a deep dive into the world of modern multimedia systems and the network technologies that power the metaverse. Through a balanced blend of theory and hands-on experience, students will explore how real-time video, immersive environments, and adaptive streaming come together to deliver rich, high-quality experiences. Key topics include multimedia and QoS fundamentals, adaptive streaming techniques, next-generation video codecs, multimedia networking protocols, quality of experience (QoE) and network emulation, media delivery for the metaverse, and projectbased learning. This course equips students not just to understand, but to build the future of immersive, high-quality multimedia systems.
