First lecture of series "Heritage & Politics: Current Affairs"
Drawing on the longue-durée aspects of politization of history in 20th century Turkey and its current effects on heritage, Professor Edhem Eldem (Istanbul) will hold the first lecture in the series "Heritage & Politics: Current Affairs" at the Research Training Group "Cultural and Technological Significance of Histroic Buildings" at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg on 30 November 2021.
Edhem Eldem is full professor at the department of history at Boğaziçi University Istanbul and at the Collège de France in Paris. In his research he has covered the economical and socio-cultural history of the late Ottoman Empire with great virtue and compassion. His historical oeuvre not only reflects upon the multiple modernities of the late Ottoman culture but also on its entanglement with Europe and the West, vividly shown in his latest study “L’Alhambra. À la croisée des histoires” (Paris 2021).
The lecture can be followed via zoom. Please contact Albrecht Wiesener, albrecht.wiesener(at)b-tu.de, for further information and the link.
