Second lecture of series "Heritage & Politics: Current Affairs"

"Transnational Activism against Heritage Destruction: Human Rights and Heritage Protection Debates in Eastern Europe": An online lecture with Dr Laura Demeter (Bamberg) on 7 December 2021, 7pm CET

In her lecture as part of the series "Heritage & Politics. Current Affairs" at the Research Training Group "Cultural and Technological Significance of Historic Buildings" at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Laura Demeter will discuss current debates on heritage destruction in Eastern Europe within a much broader historical perspective on transnational activism, human rights discourses, and the rule of law in post-authoritarian societies.

Laura Demeter is a Research Associate at Otto Friedrich-Universität Bamberg where she collaborates in the research consortium “UrbanMetaMapping” (BMBF) with an international group of researchers for the examination of war damage maps of European cities as an interdisciplinary source. In her ground-breaking dissertation “Picking up the Pieces from the Communist Past. Transitional Heritage in post 1989 Germany and Romania”, Laura Demeter introduces the analysis of transitional heritage in the context of post-authoritarian societies by drawing on various case studies from Bucharest and Berlin.

The lecture can be followed via zoom. Please contact Albrecht Wiesener, albrecht.wiesener(at)b-tu.de, for further information and the link.
