01/11/2023 The environmental disaster on the Oder

As part of the "Special investigation program on the environmental disaster in the Oder River in August 2022" (ODER~SO), we are investigating the effects of increased salt loads and the associated mass development of the brackish water alga Prymnesium parvum on the emergence of aquatic insects. We are interested in changes in the species community (biodiversity) and their possible consequences for the aquatic-terrestrial coupling and deal with the question to what extent floodplain waters can serve as a refuge for aquatic insects during an environmental catastrophe.

Since November 1, we have been supported in the field work, sorting and analysis of the insect community by Nadja Heitmann as a new research assistant in the ODER~SO project.
