On the transformation of the professional habitus of nursing teachers

Runtime

1/2022 to 12/2024 (extended until 8/2027)

The project was able to utilise the unplanned 'laboratory situation' of the implementation of the statutory nursing profession reform and scientifically observed and accompanied three nursing schools in each of two federal states during the challenging phase of implementing the new law. The methodological triangulation of expert interviews, group discussions and teaching ethnographies has resulted in a complex body of data that contains significant scientific findings and will be of great benefit for the further development of educational practice in nursing schools.

The preliminary findings focus primarily on three discoveries: (a) the central importance of the teams for the development and transformation of professional habitualisations; (b) the remarkable diversity of the profiles and 'cultures' of the nursing schools; (c) the great importance of a kind of 'correspondence' between the learning processes of the collective and the individual group members in the successful transformation of professional practices - including from 'caring' to 'teaching'.

These three discoveries will now be analysed in greater depth in the continuation phase of the project - an option that is the prerequisite for a conceptually convincing consolidation of the construct of "intermediate knowledge" , which theoretically guided the original application of the project and remains the central orientation for the extension.
