Ideas competition: FutureRoads@BTU

The Car-Free University Day 2024 is calling for an ideas competition: FutureRoads@BTU How can the roads and paths of the future be designed at BTU?

The Car-Free University Day will take place this year on 18.06.2024 on the main campus of the BTU. All BTU students and staff can take part in the competition and university day.

FutureRoads@BTU

Roads and paths take us from one place to another. They are places of mobility, of stopping and parking, but also of collective interaction, conflict and coordination. Roads are often associated primarily with cars - but there are many more actors who use roads and paths: Bicycles, pedestrians, scooters, streetcars and buses.

As part of the FutureRoads@BTU competition, ideas and concepts for the redesign of the streets, paths and parking areas of the BTU locations (main campus, Campus Sachsendorf, Campus Senftenberg, Campus Nord) are to be submitted, which address the various usage requirements (e.g. stay & social interaction, development, connection). Finished prototypes (e.g. redesign of parking spaces) or concepts (e.g. in video form, poster, collage or packaged in a poetry slam) can be presented. The concepts or prototypes should represent approaches to solutions in consideration of the following question:

  • What could a vision for a future-proof and sustainable mobility infrastructure at the BTU locations look like?
  • What usage requirements and needs do the various road users have for the roads, paths and parking spaces at the BTU sites?
  • How can roads, paths and/or parking spaces be (re)designed accordingly?

The three most convincing concepts will be awarded a prize!

Competition procedure:

  1. To take part in the competition, a description/explanation of the entry must be submitted by email to katrin.uhl@b-tu.de by 31.05.2024.
  2. All submitted entries will be exhibited on 18.06.2026 as part of the nationwide Car-Free University Day. Participants are responsible for setting up by 11:00 am. Dismantling will be carried out independently by the exhibitors from 4 pm.
  3. All students and staff members are cordially invited to leave feedback on the submitted contributions on 18.06.2024. An expert jury will select the 3 most convincing concepts at the closing event of the Car-Free University Day (start at 2 pm at the Lehmbau).

We look forward to your exciting and innovative contributions and to interesting discussions about the FutureRoads@BTU!
