New Master's qualifies extra-occupationally for public administration

In the upcoming winter semester 2025/26, the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus Senftenberg (BTU) will launch the Master's degree programme in Public Administration, which prepares students for leadership roles.

The study programme is primarily aimed at employees who are already working in public administration or who aspire to a career in this field. For this group of people, the university continuing education programme opens up the possibility of an extra-occupational qualification in order to meet the changes in the professional environment, to actively help shape them or to use this as further training for advancement. Interested parties can still apply until 31 August 2025.

In the study programme Public Administration programme, students spend four semesters learning about the central aspects of public administration and expanding their skills in this important area. On the basis of the practical and interdisciplinary programme, they acquire sound knowledge of administrative science and related disciplines.

The language of teaching on the extra-occupational Master's degree programme is German, and the individual modules can also be booked separately. If you enrol on the study programme at a later date, these will be fully credited. This allows those interested to focus on specific topics or to gradually organise their path to a Master's degree. The director of studies is Prof. PD Dr. phil. habil. Steffen Groß from the Chair of Economics, in particular Microeconomics at BTU.

In the first semesters, the focus of the extra-occupational studies programme "Public Administration (MPA)" is on the legal foundations and structural framework of public administration. Students gain valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of public administration through case studies, project work and dialogue with experienced practitioners. Current topics such as digitalisation, sustainability and citizen participation are incorporated throughout the course. In addition, students' personal and social skills are funded in order to optimally prepare them for management tasks in public administration. Students graduate with a Master of Public Administration(M.P.A.).

Graduates of the Public Administration study programme are able to analyse complex administrative processes, make strategic decisions and develop innovative approaches to improve public services. They find their professional fields of activity in particular as employees of public administration, public companies and non-profit organisations.
