Application and Admission Requirements
  • You must hold a first academic degree (at least Bachelor's degree) in a humanities, cultural or social sciences degree programme (incl. economics, law and political science) or in a natural or technical sciences degree programme that gives you access to a Master's degree programme in Germany and that is subject-specifically relevant for admission to the Transformation Studies, M.A. Degree Programme. The criteria for confirming the academic aptitude is proof of relevant modules from a previous degree programme.
  • Information on the recognition of European and international higher educational qualifications can be found in the German authorities' database anabin.
  • Proof of English language proficiency (Information sheet on language requirements)
    • TOEFL (min. 550 points, 213 points computer based, internet based 79 points)
    • IELTS (min. 6.0)
    • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (min. B)
    • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (min. C)
    • UniCert (Stufe II)
    • Exempted from this regulation are only students from: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States of America, or students holding a first degree in English from one of the above mentioned countries or from Germany.
    • For applicants from Germany: As a rule, the Abitur serves as proof of sufficient English language proficiency.
  • Knowledge of German is not required, but it is an advantage.
Application Documents
  • Copies of your certificates in the original language - and in addition, in sworn translation (in German or English): Higher education entrance qualification, fist academic degree etc.
  • Depending on the type of degree and country of origin, additional certificates may need to be submitted. Simply take a look here to see which additional certificates these could include!
  • Letter of motivation
  • Up-to-date curriculum vitae
  • Academic reference letter
  • Copy of passport/official personal identification
  • Copy of a valid residence permit for Germany, if available
  • Proof of language skills
  • For changing the university within Germany, in addition: Certificate of removal from the register of students (Submit at the latest upon enrollment!) and certificate of non-objection (proof of right to take examinations)
  • Please submit all certificates in their entirety and include the diploma certificate as well as the overview of subjects and grades! You must not omit any parts of the certificate (such as a diploma supplement) or single pages. Certificates with inscriptions on both sides must be submitted on both sides (front and back).
Application Process
  • European and International applicants submit their application online to the University Application Service for International Students uni-assist. The uni-assist online portal will be cleared for applying in March, 2024. The application period runs from 1 March, 2024 to 15 July, 2024.
  • Applicants with a German higher education degree have to apply via BTU's Online Application Portal.
