new study starts: Technology, Science and Society (DAS)

TeSS is a new certificate study programme at BTU It is the acronym for Technology, Science, and Society, the programme is rooted in the acadademic field of Science and Technology Studies (STS).

The study programme prepares students for the deliberative processes in society about a responsible and sustainable use of science and technology in our knowledge societies. It fosters critical reflexive thinking and deepens the understanding of the historical, political and ethical dimensions of technical objects, infrastructures and fabrication. Students work in a highly international and interdisciplinary environment, they learn techniques for lifelong learning, and build a community of practice. These competences are confirmed with a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) and a certificate “Technology in Society”.

What are the requirements?

The programme is a part-time certificate programme which requires at least a first professional qualification (usually a Bachelor's degree). It is also possible to take up the certificate programme during or after a Master/diploma programme. Additionally, and after consultation, you can also complete the study programme during your Bachelor. You will receive the certificate as soon as you have completed your Bachelor's degree.

How can I enrol?

This is a different procedure than enrolling as a regular student. You conclude a so-called study contract with BTU.
The entire certificate programme lasts (at least) 2 semesters (36 ECTS). You must take only two compulsory modules, all others are elective modules.
There are costs of 280 € (mainly production, organization and availability of digital teaching material).

Important note: As long as you follow the TeSS module catalog, you can use modules twice, first for the certificate program and for your degree program in which you are enrolled, if approved there.
