When does the ESiSt programme take place?
  • It begins with the winter semester and ends with the summer semester. Entry into the programme is only possible in the winter semester.
From when to when does the application period for the ESiSt programme run?
  • It runs from March 15th to July 15th of each year for the following winter semester.
How do I apply?
  • I create an account with Uni-Assist: https://www.uni-assist.de/.
  • I enter "ESiSt" in the search field.
  • I enter the requested information and complete my application.
Should I send an extra application for my future Degree course in addition to my application for the programme?
  • No. During my application for the programme, I am asked about my future major.
What requirements do I have to meet in order to be admitted to the ESiSt programme?
  • I am in possession of a B2 certificate recognized by the BTU.
  • I have a higher education entrance qualification in my home country.
  • I pass the entrance exam at the beginning of the programme.
I will only get my B2 certificate after August 15th. Can I still apply?
  • Yes, I will apply by July 15th with a confirmation of participation in the examination and state in the comments that I will submit my B2 certificate later.
Unfortunately, I do not have a higher education entrance qualification in my home country. What should I do?
  • In that case, participation in the program is unfortunately not possible.
When does the entrance exam take place?
  • It will take place in September 2024.
What does the entrance exam consist of?
  • It consists of a German and a mathematics test.
What happens if I don't pass the entrance exam?
  • My admission expires automatically and I will not get a place on the ESiSt programme.
When does the course in the ESiSt programme start and end?
  • The course starts in October and ends in July.
How is the programme structured?

The winter semester (ING and MIN programme) consists of

1. an intensive German language course that ends with the HZP (20 course hours p.w.),

2. a course on grammatical German (2 course hours p.w.),

3. a practical language training course in German (2 course hours p.w.),

4. a German revision course (2 course hours p.w.),

5. a course Germany in Europe (2 course hours p.w.),

6. a course on the basics of study (2 course hours p.w.),

7. A course on scientific work at German universities (2 course hours p.w.)

8. and a multi-day study trip / excursion to start the program.

The summer semester (ING programme) consists of

1. a course in technical German for engineers and scientists (8 course hours p.w.),

2. a specialist course in mathematics, which concludes with the HZP (8 course hours p.w.),

3. a specialist physics course that ends with the HZP (6 course hours p.w.),

4. a specialist course in chemistry (4 course hours p.w.),

5. a specialist course in computer science (4 course hours p.w.),

6. and a laboratory course (4 course hours p.w.).

The summer semester (MIN programme) consists of

1. a course in technical German for engineers and scientists (8 course hours p.w.),

2. a specialist course in biology, which concludes with the HZP (8 course hours p.w.),

3. a specialist course in mathematics, which concludes with the HZP (6 course hours p.w.),

4. a specialist course in chemistry (4 course hours p.w.),

5. a specialist course in physics (4 course hours p.w.),

6. and a laboratory course (4 course hours p.w.).

When does the HZP exam take place?
  • The language exam takes place in February and the subject-specific exams in June.
What does participation in the ESiSt programme cost?
  • Participation in the ESiSt programme costs the registration and re-registration fee. This semester fee applies from winter semester 2023/2024 and is subject to change for all subsequent semesters.
