Contextualizing urban crises and searching for appropriate tools: the Athenian case study

Nicholas Anastasopoulos / Phd, Researcher, Assoc. Professor, NTUA Athens

  • How can we make sense of the various phenomena occurring in a city during a crisis?
  • To what extent are they related to local conditions, and to what extent are international developments affecting the city?

At times of intensive interconnectedness, it is often difficult to discern how the local interacts with the global. By taking the cue from two contemporary cities, Athens and Berlin, this lecture examines the relationship between architecture, urbanism, politics, and history and analyzes contemporary initiatives which attempt to address urban crises.
