Day of the Dead

The Chair of Intercultural Studies and the Spanisch-Club at BTU would like to invite you to a joyous celebration of “Day of the Dead” in memoriam of Dr. Mariya Shcherbyna on the 28.10 at 17:00 in quasiMONO.

“Day of the Dead” is a festivity of Indigenous origins celebrated in Mexico and Central America, representing a welcoming invitation for dead loved ones to visit us, the living, back on Earth. Rather than viewing death as a tragic end, the tradition frames it as a natural phase of the human experience and a continuation of life's cycle. Since 2008 the festivities have been inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

We would like to invite everyone at BTU to this cheerful reunion with the dead, sharing reflections and stories on the role of cultural heritage in questions such as grief, remembrance, believes and rituals to make peace with human mortality. A discussion on the Mexican tradition will be presented by Dr. Estibaliz Sienra Iracheta, followed by open contributions from the public.

Bring photos of your relatives and/or friends who have passed away to place on the “ofrenda” altar and honour their memory! Hot drinks and snacks will be available!
