“The Digital “Memory of the World”: An Exploration of Documentary Practices in the Age of Digital Technologies”

Description:

This research examines the conceptual and practical changes that emerge in the field of documentary heritage preservation as a result of using computer and Internet technologies. The UNESCO Memory of the World Programme offers a reference point in this analysis. The main aim is to understand the limits of using digital technologies for purposes of preservation and to suggest alternative solutions to the drawbacks they may have. 

Short Bio:

Anca Claudia PRODAN attended courses in anthropology, philosophy, and theatre staging and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy-Anthropology conferred by the Faculty of Political Sciences and Communications of the West University of Timişoara, Romania. Her passion for various academic disciplines as well as for interdisciplinary research led her to the master programme in World Heritage Studies, BTU Cottbus, from which she received her Master’s degree. Her major interests in the field of culture, heritage and communication determined her to enrol, as doctoral student, in the PhD programme of the IGS Heritage Studies, where she is currently doing research for her doctoral dissertation. In June 2013 she has joined the Chair Intercultural Studies at BTU as academic assistant. She teaches in the Master's programme World Heritage Studies and is currently preparing a post-doctoral research project.
