How to find my book on the shelf?
Our library is very special - on 6 different floors you will find hundreds of thousands different media in the IKMZ. It might make you nervous when it comes to finding books on a specific topic or even a very specific book, which has been recommended by a lecturer.
But it is very easy to find the media you want in the library! Of course, you can always ask one of our nice colleagues at the information counters on the 2nd and 3rd floor for help, or you can try it yourself - while browsing the shelves! Once done - you know how it works!
We recommended our course A2” The library catalogue - from your search request to the book” to learn how to use the online catalogue. With a list of your desired titles you can easily find the media in real terms with the corresponding location information. It’s worth to have a look at the books next to the searched items due to the appropriate systematic group.
The guide gives you a 3D view of the floor on which you will find the book – with the indication in which shelf you can find it. Each shelf has a number on the front side. Nevertheless, you should remember the location information, because such a shelf wall is quite long.
The first two letters on the backside of the book are an abbreviation referring to possible special locations. FH means accessible holdings and refers to the normal borrowable media. This is followed by the respective classification group - in this example "18.01" stands for "Natural Sciences in general". Within this group, the media are arranged first after letter ("B") and within one letter after number ("393"). Following this order, you should search through the shelf: Systematic group - Letter - Number.
Good luck!
