70 years of art in architecture in Germany

For 70 years, state-commissioned art has enriched our lives and our everyday lives. Art in architecture can be found in almost all federal, state and municipal institutions, yet only very few works are generally known.

The exhibition developed by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning to mark the anniversary of “70 Years of Art in Architecture in Germany” in 2020 offers an overview of building-related art from both German states that was commissioned by the federal government between 1950 and 1990 and since reunification. Around 60 works of art for federal institutions in Germany and abroad are presented in ten chapters and honored in their historical, political and architectural context. A further chapter is dedicated to art in architecture in Cottbus.

The exhibition will open on Thursday, 17 October 2024, at 6 pm at the Information, Communication and Media Centre (IKMZ) of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.
