Improvement of Reception Conditions for Refugees, Persons entitled to Protection and Persons entitled to Temporary Protection in Brandenburg (VASiB)
Runtime
12/2022 bis 12/2025
In Brandenburg, an above-average number of a refugees live in collective accommodation for an above-average length of time. However, involuntary and externally controlled centralised accommodation has long-term negative consequences at both the individual and societal levels.
Private housing for refugees is a key factor in enabling them to participate, settle and remain in communities. Living in one's own home generally offers more security than living in collective accommodation, which is controlled and determined by others. The experiences of self-efficacy that come with residential autonomy are important for psychosocial stabilisation.
The VASiB joint project aims to improve the living conditions for asylum seekers and those entitled to protection in Brandenburg in the long term. Interlocking measures are designed to break down structural barriers and empower refugees to expand their scope for action.
VASiB works throughout Brandenburg. The network partners are located in eight districts. The project activities have an impact at both the local and state levels.
Findings from application-oriented research in the field of ‘Sociology for Social Work’ are incorporated into the practical sub-projects. In addition, scientific and professional public discourses are initiated.
The project identifies conditions for success and failure in the housing of asylum seekers, especially in small towns and rural regions of Brandenburg. The focus is on the needs of refugees and the factors that encourage them to stay in the context of housing.
The field of ‘Sociology for Social Work’ advises the other sub-projects on their application-oriented qualitative and quantitative surveys. In addition, its own guided expert interviews and group interviews are conducted and evaluated in accordance with grounded theory.
