Project 2000
Status Report Gruppe 1/ 08.01.2001
1. Recalculation of Column C201
- complete takeover of BP in house ASPEN-model
problems:
- feed conditions (p, T , vapor and liquid fraction, mass flow unknown) vapor and liquid enters the column on different stages (in model)
- head temperature too low (depends on feed temperature and vapor-liquid distribution)
desired quality (BP):
head | water | 10% m/m (max) |
acidity | 1.5% m/m (max) | |
bottom | acetone | 2.5% m/m (max) |
obtained quality(Aspen model):
head | water | 18.2% m/m (+14.7%) |
acidity | 2.6% m/m (-3.7%) | |
bottom | acetone | 0.8% m/m (-59.4%) |
analysis quality (original BP analysis):
head | water | 15.87% m/m |
acidity | 2.7% m/m | |
bottom | acetone | 1.97% m/m |
2.Optimization and Validation
ideas: sensitivity analysis
- change number of feed stage
- change number of stage for aqueous returns
- change feed temperature
- change of reboiler duty
- change of reflux ratio
- determination of tray efficiency
- improvement of thermodynamic model (HOC and NRTL parameters)
3. Further model improvements and optimization
not yet done
Literature investigation:
- ongoing
- numerous article has been analyzed and evaluated
- it’s not clear if further efforts will lead to any useful results for BP
