The subject of this year's seminar will be the various tenements of Berlin and the living conditions of renting dwellers against the background of changing socio-political settings, ideas, ideals and conflicting interests of involved stakeholders. Based on the example of rented housing in Berlin, we aim to reflect on the material and immaterial production of architectural and urban space throughout the last century. In order to get a deeper understanding of the city's texture, the scale of examination will vary from a single house to settlements and whole districts. Presuming that space is not given but manmade, questions of everyday life, power relations and social movements matter to our investigation as much as the physical built environment.
