ISW- International Student Workshop 2025
Three BTU students from the Master's programme in Artificial Intelligence have been accepted to present their research work at a session of the International Student Workshop (ISW' 2025), which is taking place in Srebrna Góra, Poland, these days (27-25 April 2025). The students were supervised by Dr habil. Ing. Ireneusz Jabłoński (Chair of Micro and Nano Systems, BTU), who was invited as a member of the workshop's scientific committee. They presented work on the development of non-invasive glucose measurement using a capacitive micromechanical ultrasound sensor (CMUT) and new algorithmic strategies relevant to human-computer interaction systems. These topics were partly developed in co-operation with Fraunhofer IPMS.
Students from various universities in Poland, Spain, Norway, the UK, the Czech Republic and Germany (BTU) presented their work during ISW' 2025. This experience has given BTU students an insight into the research field, provided a good opportunity to socialise with peers studying at other universities and in other countries, and will hopefully enable them to take the next step in their personal and professional development in the future.

5G Day at the BTU

5G for change in Lusatia
In cooperation with Nokia, Smart Mobile Labs, ASCOM and the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Spreeland, we hosted a 5G Day at BTU on 22 January.
BTU's self-sufficient 5G network has been in operation since spring 2024 and is being used for various research applications such as drone swarm flights, autonomous driving and data exchange for predictive maintenance as part of iCampµs.
The event focussed on the advantages and opportunities that companies can gain from cooperating with iCampµs on the topic of 5G and beyond.
In presentations and demonstrations, guests learned how their own local 5G network can be installed and used for wireless data exchange between machines and the control centre. Nokia, Smart Mobile Labs and ASCOM presented some of their security management concepts such as alarm and task management, as well as real-time video distribution to 5G smartphones with object and person recognition. The event was covered by an RBB television team and the Lausitzer Rundschau newspaper.

OASYS Annual Meeting
Technology development - transfer and structural change in Lusatia
Transfer partners of the BTU and Lusatian SMEs are cordially invited to inform themselves about the current project status of the OASYS lead projects from 9:45 a.m., to be inspired by the CHESCO keynote speech and to discuss transfer approaches and possibilities in order to gather new ideas and impulses.
The open transfer workshop in the afternoon from 13:00 will encourage the exchange of best practice. Different perspectives on transfer will be presented (BTU, LIL) in order to evaluate objectives in relation to OASYS. The WfBB in the Photonics and Healthcare Cluster will provide information about support options and after exciting practical pitches, the network meeting will end with an open discussion.
The OASYS project team is looking forward to interesting encounters, diverse suggestions and good discussions. To the programme

Impressions of the ICCC2024

The city was at its best when around 230 participants gathered in Cottbus on 14 May for the first iCampµs Cottbus Conference iCCC2024. The event kicked off with a joint city tour on historic trams with the Cottbus post coachman and the Baumkuchenfrau as city guides. This made it possible to get to know each other and the city for the first time.
In addition to 5 keynote speeches and 11 invited lectures, a wide range of topics divided into 8 sessions with 22 specialist lectures awaited visitors on 15 and 16 May. Accordingly, the conference proceedings comprise no less than 221 pages. In addition to the opportunity to network and enjoy refreshments, 17 exhibition stands were available during the breaks. A poster session with 31 contributions rounded off the scientific programme.
The humorous side of science was shown to us by Vince Ebert, who guided us through digitalisation with understanding and explained many things. Or did you already know why humans can think (or at least could...)? After an award ceremony for the best paper, poster and exhibition stand, we said goodbye with the thought that we will meet again in two years' time at iCCC2026.
