Best Master’s thesis

Björn Riedel received the award for the best master’s thesis at Faculty 1 of the BTU Cottbus–Senftenberg.

Björn Riedel from the chair »Applied Physics and Semiconductor Spectroscopy« received the award for his Master’s thesis entitled »Epitaxial Growth of Samarium Oxide Nanoislands on Copper (111)«, which he successfully defended in April 2025. 

Björn Riedel is currently continuing his research as a doctoral candidate at the chair, working on the topic »In-situ studies of mixed cerium oxide-based inverse model catalysts« as part of the Energy Innovation Centre.

The BTU Friends' Assoziation awards the prizes for the best Master’s theses annually. Björn Riedel shared the Faculty 1 prize with Philipp Wolf Schleicher from the chair »Discrete Mathematics and Foundations of Computer Science«.
The award ceremony took place on 18 September 2026.
