The colloquium on "Forms and Processes of Sustainable Urban Development and Design" was chaired by the Urban Planning Department in the context of the Megacity Research Project TP. Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) on Tuesday the 7th of June 2011 at Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) in Cottbus, Germany. Visiting scientists, practitioners, doctoral candidates and colleagues from the BTU Cottbus as well as from partner universities participated in an open discussion. The colloquium included international perspectives and projects which addressed the issue of how concepts of a sustainable and especially climate-oriented urban development and design can be developed and implemented. Special attention was drawn to the relation of concept and reality.

OBJECTIVES

The aim of the colloquium was twofold. On the one hand it provided an opportunity to discuss and compare ideas of urban design and planning concepts for sustainable urban development related to different urban scales and on the other hand an exchange between theoretical and science-based concepts and the reality of the production of urban space in the different regional context. It is aimed to continue this international exchange of information, knowledge as well as experiences from different planning and design perspectives.
